Species: Culiseta incidens

Importance:

This species is an experimental vector of WEE, SLE and JBE; it has not been found naturally infected with arboviruses. This species readily attacks cattle and when numerous may be an important livestock pest.

Biology:

This species overwinters as an adult. Eggs are laid in long narrow rafts on clear or semi-clear permanent pools.

Identifying Characteristics:

Rounded abdomen, base of wing vein Sc with row of setae ventrally, hindtarsomeres with narrow pale bands, wing with dense patches of dark scales.
