Species: Culiseta impatiens

Importance:

According to Quickenden (1991), this species is found along both sides of the Continental Divide, although in limited numbers. Thus, it is of little importance as a nuisance and it is unknown if this species is involved in disease transmission.

Biology:

This species hibernates as an adult in sheltered places and may be found on the wing during the first warm days of spring. Eggs are laid in the spring in rafts on water surfaces in a variety of natural and man-made water collections, especially those rich in organic matter.

Identifying Characteristics:

Rounded abdomen, base of wing vein Sc with row of setae ventrally, hindtarsomeres not banded, wing completely dark scaled.
