Species: Culiseta alaskaensis

Importance:

This species is rarely trapped in the state and is not numerous enough to be an important pest.

Biology:

Females overwinter in sheltered locations and emerge in early spring to take a blood meal. Eggs are deposited in rafts in semi-permanent pools of water. There is only one generation per year.

Identifying Characteristics:

Rounded abdomen, base of wing vein Sc with row of setae ventrally, hind tarsomeres with wide pale bands.
