Species: Anopheles walkeri

Importance:

This species is not considered an important vector. In addition, it has not been shown to demonstrate any capacity of transmitting avian malaria.

Biology:

In the spring, An. walkeri deposits eggs directly on the water surface in freshwater swamp habitats. This species produces a hardy winter egg in late summer in which it overwinters.

Identifying Characteristics:

Maxillary palpi on head as long as proboscis, wing entirely dark scaled with distinct dark spots, segments of palpi with apical pale bands, scutum reddish to dark brown.
