Species: Aedes spencerii spencerii

Importance:

This species has been reported to be migrate towards city and town lights and is a serious pest of livestock and humans when present in high numbers. It is fairly common but is not known to be involved in disease transmission.

Biology:

Ae. spencerii overwinters in the egg stage. Larval habitats include barrow pits and depressions that contain water from melting snow and low areas filled with seepage from runoff.

Identifying Characteristics:

Pointed abdomen, no leg banding, wing veins alternating dark and pale scales, abdominal terga with a dorsal median longitudinal stripe. Similar to Ae. spencerii idahoensis.
