Species: Aedes sierrensis

Importance:

The prevalence of this species is rare. It is suspected of being a vector of canine heartworm.

Biology:

Larvae are found in cavities in trees and artificial containers with heavy leaf sediment. Winter is passed in the larval stage or egg stage if the treeholes have not been flooded. similar to Ae. hendersoni.

Identifying Characteristics:

Pointed abdomen, pale banding on apical and basal ends of hindtarsomeres, wing entirely dark scaled, last tarsomere entirely pale scaled.
