Importance:
Not an important species because of low numbers. It reportedly attacks cattle more readily than man.
Biology:
Overwinters in the egg stage. Distributed throughout the northern prairie area in the state. Larvae can be found in pools around irrigated fields with alkaline water.
Identifying Characteristics:
Pointed abdomen, broad pale banding only on basal part of hindtarsomere, wings with pale and dark scales intermixed, palpi with some pale scales, abdominal terga covered completely with pale scales.
